MARCH 2003 CHALLENGE : Mad Victorian Scientist !
(from March 17 to April 10, 2003)
Take a look at this telephone from 1906.
This is what you should model BUT you should do it with a twist. Imagine a Victorian laboratory from say 1850. An experiment in time travel is in
the progress and this telephone belongs to the Vital-For-The-Experiment-To-Work-Gadgets. It could have mysterious dials, levers, knobs and wires,
or maybe some optical enhancements.
Inspiration: The Time Machine (movies from 1960 and 2002), Wild Wild West (lousy movie,
but interesting gadgets), Sleepy Hollow (not in the timeframe but Ichabod Crane has some seriously intriguing optical gadgets), Jules Verne, etc...
Keywords: Brass, polished oak wood, copper, knobs, dials, levers, steam power, electricity, optics, etc...
Focus will be on the telephone - modeling, texturing and lighting - and not on the environment. You can place the final model
on a plain grey floor if you like. The final model should be recognized as a telephone, but it could/should be heavily modified by the Mad Victorian
Scientist. The final model should also be believable - no digital displays or anything like that. The final model
should be able to function as a prop in the movie "The Time Machine II", ie. only using materials available at the time.
It could of course anticipate technologies available today and it's up to you to make it believable.
